PLC Solution

PLC Features and Advantages

Communication via Existing Power Lines

  • Uses the same electrical wiring that powers the lights to communication, no need to install the specific communication lines.
  • No need for wireless spectrum.
  • Ideal for areas where wireless coverage is weak or not allowed.
  • Transmission distance reaches to the last node on the same power line.

Centralized Control

  • Communication typically runs point-to-multipoint between a control cabinet (with PLC master) and multiple street lights (with PLC nodes).
  • All lights on the same power circuit can be managed from the feeder cabinet.

Friend Network Infrastructure

  • No need for transfer devices like gateways, routers, or repeaters – the power network for lights is the communication medium.
  • No need to manage and maintain a private RF wireless network.

Low Interference & High Reliability

  • The situation of wireless RF congestion would never occur such as LoRa, Zigbee, NB-IoT, etc.
  • Works well in environments with strict RF restrictions (e.g., certain industrial zones, airports, military area.)
  • No Radio Frequency  singal impacts.

Security & Encryption

  • The PLC systems support encryption (AES-128 or stronger) for secure data transfer.
  • Communication can be isolated per feeder or per cabinet.

Fault Detection & Alarms

  • Automatic alerts for: communication faults, lamp failure, power supply issues, over-voltage, low-voltage, over-current, low-current.

Scalability and Flexibility

  • PLC communication allows new lights to be added easily.
  • Adding PLC nodes on the same power line is simple and low cost.

Data Collection

  • Collects light’s data: energy usage, location, faults.
  • Generates reports for management optimization, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction.
